The goal of the Legal Department is to prevent or minimize the liability risks to the Authority, to represent, or to supervise the representation of, the Authority in all legal matters, advise Executive Office and Board of Commissioners.  Under the direction of the General Counsel, the in-house Department has greatly reduced the overall costs to the Authority.  Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: general litigation, real estate finance and development, public housing operations, risk management, document preparation, drafting of contracts, landlord-tenant matters, governance, Board Advisor, Board Resolutions, development of policies and procedures, HUD compliance,  and processes OPRA (Open Public Records Act) requests.  The General Counsel manages outside attorneys, supervises staff counsel, para-professionals, and office support staff.
